NBC had a bug on the screen announcing the premier for a little while, but I finally saw a press release about it yesterday.</p>
<p>The season will  debut from 8-10 on Monday night. The release didn&#8217;t say what time the show will be on after that. I am guessing 8-9, but am too lazy to go look it up.</p>
<p>The two winners from last season will return as Gladiators and another female Gladiator has joined the group. They will introduce two new events and have re-vamped the Eliminator. I also hope they have done something about Powerball to reduce the chance of injuries for the competitors.</p>
<p>The bad news is that Hulk and Leila will continue to deliver insipid commentary. Oh, well. You can&#8217;t win &#8217;em all.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I worked with a guy at a previous job who hated the phrase &#8220;have to.&#8221; When people would tell he that he had to do something, he would look at them and say, &#8220;I&#8217;m an adult. I don&#8217;t have to do anything.&#8221;</p>
<p>I loved it, especially when it came to food and television shows and other things that rely on personal taste. Just because you like something doesn&#8217;t mean I will like something. I remember when a family member told my wife that she had to read <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memoirs_of_a_Geisha">Memoirs of a Geisha</a> because it would &#8220;change your life.&#8221;</p>
<p>My wife is pretty sure about the things she likes and reads tons of books so I knew it wouldn&#8217;t happen. She did read the book and when the person asked her about it, Maria just kind of shrugged and said it was OK.</p>
<p>I bring these two things up because &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wire_%28TV_series%29" target="_blank">The Wire</a>&#8221; debuted its new season on HBO last night. I know people will start asking me soon if I watched it.</p>
<p>I didn&#8217;t. And I don&#8217;t know if I will. I might. I&#8217;m not really sure because I don&#8217;t have <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HBO" target="_blank">HBO</a> (I have also never seen <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sopranos" target="_blank">&#8220;The Sopranos</a>,&#8221; which I know will cause some people to go into apoplectic shock) and I don&#8217;t really plan on adding it to watch a few shows.</p>
<p>To steal from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Office_%28US%29" target="_blank">The Office</a>&#8216;s <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B._J._Novak" target="_blank">B.J. Novak</a>, &#8220;<a href="http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&amp;friendID=3241662&amp;blogID=210003405&amp;MyToken=118d5788-f3e6-49b0-a4f4-3259f27ec1f5" target="_blank">I will watch The Wire when I watch The Wire!</a>&#8221;</p>
<p>I probably will break down this time for a few reasons. I know someone who directed one episode so that will be cool. And the season focuses on the media, which is near and dear to my heart.</p>
<p>But the people who tell me that my life is missing something because I don&#8217;t watch a TV show will make the stubborn part of me wait a while before I even think about watching. And when I do, I won&#8217;t go around telling people about it just because I know that will make the people who can&#8217;t believe I don&#8217;t watch it happy.</p>
<p>I was happy enough last night watching &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desperate_housewives" target="_blank">Desperate Housewives</a>&#8221; and flipping over to &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Gladiators" target="_blank">American Gladiators</a>&#8221; during commercials. I taped that and will watch it tonight. Now that&#8217;s something you &#8220;have to&#8221; watch.</p>

It wasn&#8217;t the two R.E.M. songs I heard on XM in the first 15 minutes of my commute, which happened almost two hours earlier than usual today. It wasn&#8217;t the free lunch I got. It wasn&#8217;t the delicious Toffee Nut Latte I had on the drive in.</p>

<p>This is seriously one of the best pieces of TV news I have heard in ages. A while back, <a href="https://regularguycolumn.com/blog/?p=20" target="_blank">I traced the downfall of American society to the cancellation of AG</a>. I now firmly believe that America will get stronger once NBC puts the show on the air.</p>
<p>All they have to do is find contestants. If you want to be a part of the greatest show in the history of television, you can apply using <a href="http://www.nbc.com/Casting/Applications/application_gladiators.pdf" target="_blank">this 22-page form</a>. They ask some real important questions for something that is designed to be a test of physical strength:</p>
<ul>
<li> What pets do you own now, or have owned at any time in the past?</li>
<li>If you were going to be in People magazine, what inside info about you would be put up next to your picture?</li>
<li>Draw a picture of yourself</li>
</ul>
<p>So despite everything I have written above, I&#8217;m not sure if I want to watch this show. I want to see a dude do a front flip over a gladiator in order to avoid a tackle in Breakthrough and Conquer. I don&#8217;t want to know about someone&#8217;s pet. They&#8217;re gonna ruin this show.</p>
<p>Since I can&#8217;t find a video of that flip = it was the most amazing thing ever &#8211; I leave you with Malibu and one of the greatest AG moments ever.</p>
