Sometimes, I don\u2019t know what to make of what goes on in this crazy world of ours. Things just keep heading in the wrong direction.<\/p>\n
This has nothing to do with the economy or pig flu or anything like that. I\u2019m talking about chicken here.<\/p>\n
Did you hear that KFC has come out with a new ad campaign? They have a new product and want everyone to know about it.<\/p>\n
They don\u2019t just want you to know about their new chicken, they want you to know that it\u2019s good for you. Yep, they are advertising Kentucky Grilled Chicken.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t know how to process that information, especially when they have an ad campaign built around the word \u201cunthink.\u201d<\/p>\n
First of all, I love grilled chicken and already know where I can get it \u2013 my backyard. I have this thing I call a grill, and I love to use it.<\/p>\n
Secondly, I don\u2019t want to \u201cunthink\u201d what I know about KFC. I already know that they serve delicious fried chicken that might not be good for me so I only eat it on rare occasions to remind me of how good it is.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s the deal with fast food. We know it\u2019s not healthy, but it tastes so good so we hold onto it as a guilty and convenient pleasure.<\/p>\n
Why did some people have to go out there and eat fast food so regularly, which caused health organizations to freak out and try and guilt places like KFC into changing?<\/p>\n
I have to rank that as one of the singularly most annoying developments in recent years. People who didn\u2019t know eating at these places all the time would cause health problems should be stopped. Don\u2019t go changing the menus to accommodate them.<\/p>\n
They started going to fast food joints for the greasy, fatty food. I have a newsflash for you \u2013 adding grilled chicken to the KFC menu won\u2019t get them to stop eating the friend chicken or that horrific bowl full of meat and vegetables they serve.<\/p>\n
And don\u2019t think I\u2019m just picking on KFC. All the fast food places have the same problem. Salads and \u201chealthy\u201d wraps at McDonald\u2019s? Veggie burgers at BK? Come on now!<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not just the healthy food angle that gets me. I have written before about the bigger issue here \u2013 diversity.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t want my favorite comfort food places branching out. I don\u2019t want lunch from Starbucks and fancy coffee from McDonald\u2019s. How many more fake Mexican food things can Taco Bell come up with and does Pizza Hut really expect us to believe that all those people were fooled by their pasta?<\/p>\n
Generally, I don\u2019t pine for the good old days, but this is one instance where I wish for a simpler time. What was wrong with fast food being a guilty pleasure? How have our lives improved through making these special places try and fit our every wish?<\/p>\n
The time has come for a change. If it doesn\u2019t happen, we\u2019re just one step away from \u201cdo you want pita bread and hummus with that?\u201d That thought scares me to death.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
