I love football. I also love cable television. Therefore, to see as much football as I want, I make sure I get a high-level cable TV package.
That’s how it works, people. Sometimes you have to pay for what you want. I don’t know why Arlen Specter and a bunch of other bored senators don’t get it.
Specter is again rattling his sabre – he’s that old; he still uses a sabre – about “injustice” in professional football. Instead of worrying about Bill Belicheck’s camcorder fetish this time, he’s up in arms again because some fans won’t get to see games which are broadcast on the NFL Network.
Hey, Arlen – the NFL Network shows eight games. EIGHT STINKING GAMES. Two of them feature either the Browns or the Bengals. People aren’t missing anything when they play. Plus, the local channels of the teams playing show them. Specter and some of his buddies apparently are weeping because some fans don’t live in the city of their favorite team, so they might not get the game.
Tough nuts. Sack up and buy digital cable or a dish, go to a bar which might show the game or just move back with Mom and Dad if a football game is so important to you.
The DirecTV thing is unreal. They also make you think that satellite is so much cheaper and has no problems and the whole world will be better, but you’re gonna pay if you want lots of stuff.
I haven’t bought this year’s Madden because I am sadistically addicted to the NCAA series, which is worse because they don’t let EA use the real names and they have hardly changed anything in three years. But I keep buying it.
If they really want to make an issue out of this, why aren’t they investigating DirecTV’s monopoly on the NFL Sunday Ticket?
I am a Redskins fan living in Boston, so I have DirecTV and pay for not only the Sunday Ticket, but also the Super Fan (because I want to be able to watch the games in high def). Since DirecTV is the only provider offering this, they charge a ridiculous amount of money for it. Why not spread the wealth and let other cable and satellite providers offer all of the games as well?
And while we are it, why not look into EA Sports exclusive contract with the NFL, which makes it so that the Madden franchise is the only one that can use the actual names of players and teams. Let’s create some competition for Madden so that they can’t simply make a few minor changes to their game each year and then charge us all $70 to buy the new version, when in essence all we are really getting are updated rosters.
