I Accept the Challenge

I remember going out to breakfast at like 3 in the morning once in college. One place had a huge breakfast special that I hadn’t seen anyone ever finish. I mentioned this, and my one friend Edge – who was an eating machine – asked me if I wanted to wager on whether he could eat it or not.

Of course I agreed. I regretted it when he polished his off, ate what I couldn’t from my plate, then had an ice cream sundae. I never bet against him again as I watched him do some amazing things with large quantities of food over the next few years.

I thought of these kinds of stories (like the time Edge went to town when Sheetz had a three hot dogs for 99 cents special – I think he ate seven and a half) when I saw this blog post. Some calorie counting web site found the 88 fast food items with the highest levels of trans fats.

To some people, this list might indicate foods to avoid. But the guy in me views the list as a challenge. I’m on medication to help with my cholesterol and my stress test 15 months ago showed no signs of heart trouble. What’s the big harm in eating 88 food items with more than five grams of trans fats? I wouldn’t plan on doing it in one sitting.

The real problem is that almost half the list – 40 of them – come from Jack in the Box and Sonic, and I don’t know of any locations within a few hours. Hell, maybe Edge has some near him, and I can road trip to clear off this whole list.
