Writer’s Strike

The writer’s strike in Hollywood has gone on for about two weeks now. Unless you have tried to follow the thing closely or watch a lot of talk shows, it probably hasn’t affected you much yet.

That’s going to change soon.

“The Office” is done until they settle the strike. Other primetime shows will follow in the coming weeks. The”To Do List” on my TiVo is dwindling. I don’t like that.

I think the stuff the producers won’t budge on is ridiculous. If you’re making money off of online, share it. That’s the way the system is set up.

My wife and I talked about it, and she asked if I thought newspaper reporters (we worked at papers for 8-10 years previously) should get paid per hit when their stories are posted online. I said no because that’s not the way the system is set up. Hollywood’s system is based on residuals and to abandon that for a new format is just wrong.

I really hope the writers stick to their guns. I know I’ll miss my shows, but I’ll survive . I haven’t ever really taken advantage of watching shows online and definitely won’t until the writers get their piece of the action.

Meanwhile, the folks at Saturday Night Live found a way to entertain people regardless of the labor situation.

  1. Yeah, you’d be first in the re-education camp when I take over the world.

I hate people like you. Oh, my God. People watch TV! What a travesty.

Every age has its mediums of entertainment. I bet you think people who enjoy television should just go watch Shakespeare. Well, Shakespeare was criticized in his day for the shallowness of his writing and now we celebrate him.

Yes, I like TV. In fact, I love TV. I enjoy watching creative things. I like plays. I enjoy listening to music. I go to parks. I read books. I play video games. I write.

In other words, just because someone enjoys TV does not rob them of their intelligence. In fact, I’d dare say I’m much smarter than you because I try to get my information from a cross-section of sources.

Oh, and I have the balls to back up my writing with my name instead of hiding behind anonymity like you.
