Better Late Than Never

Even though I listen to a fair amount of new music thanks to my XM radio, I don’t always keep up with the trends. I might hear something good, but will easily forget about it in five minutes when I hear one of my old favorites.

Thankfully, I did manage to retain the name of the band Gaslight Anthem when I read several friends rave about them via Twitter or Facebook. Yes, those silly social networking sites turned me on to an album I just love now.

I even eschewed my normal method of purchase (downloading) to get the physical CD, mainly because I had a gift card to a major retailer from Christmas. I’m glad I went this route because it made it easier to throw the CD in my car to make a long drive a little more enjoyable.

The raw sound filled with energy makes it easy to listen to the 12-song CD all the way through. I have found The ’59 Sound easy companionship for driving, taking a walk, even working.

Now I want to try some of their earlier stuff. I still have some gift card money left over. I also am waiting for my Hold Steady CD, another band I am trying on the advice of friends. Anyone else have any suggestions for me to try?

  1. Los Campesinos! dude. They released two records last year and both of them are totally worth your attention.

Oh, and Butch Walker, of course because as a friend of yours, I am required to pimp his records at every single opportunity.
