For the first time in forever, we rented a few movies. We had some time over the holidays, so I used a gift card I got for my birthday and picked a pair up at Blockbuster.
We had want to see The Ex (which has somehow been re-titled “Fast Track) when it came out in the theatre, but just never had a chance. Part of that was because the film flopped. After watching it, I’m not entirely sure why. Sure, I’m easily entertained and was pre-disposed to like it because I love the Jason Bateman and the Zach Braff, but the film was not that bad.
What is the world coming to when easily tied up 90-minute romantic comedies with a fairly unbelieveable premise can’t get any attention? I love that the real R-rated comedy has made a comeback, but I hope that’s not at the expense of movies like The Ex. Especially since Charles Grodin does a fantastic job in the film.
Our other choice was Ocean’s Thirteen. I pretty much knew this would rock because I liked the first two versions, and I really like watching pretty much all the guys in the cast. The interplay between all the characters is so entertaining even though you know the entire scenario is completely unbelievable.
The whole storyline in Mexico with Casey Affleck cracked me up. Plus, I liked getting to see all the Vegas scenes, although I think the fake hotel featured in the plot had about four different locations on the Strip based on the CGI external shots.
Who cares though? That’s what makes movies like that great. I knew it was totally implausible. They knew it was totally fake. But they still managed to entertain me for two hours.
Oceans 13 was pretty legit the only thing was I remember missing some important part to get popcorn so I was pissed. It had some slick scenes.
I loved Oceans Thirteen. It was the first I’d seen, so I had to go back and rent the others to catch up.
